In the time of its coming into existence, this three-hundred-year old dance language has been considered an elite way of artistic expression at courts all over Europe.
Many important issues were at the time reflected through the use of art - ethics, politics, culture. Dance was holding an important and noble status, especially at the court of the Sun King, Louis the XIV in France.
While creating this piece I was also intrigued by the use of this specific body language which is taken out of its context and used on a different level. Does it still communicate, do we still perceive its power and beauty? Or is it just a ghost from the past, which should take its place in the museum, never to live again?
